Dear Reader,
We present you the third edition of Young ICCA Voices with a particular focus on West, East and Southern Africa. The third issue coincides with the one-day conference in Kigali on 5 June 2025, co-hosted by ICCA and the Kigali International Arbitration Centre, focusing on the theme "Africa & International Arbitration: Untold Stories".
In this third edition of Voices, we present two interviews with practitioners with significant experience in the region:
- We speak with Sylvie Bebohi, Co-founder and Partner of HBE AVOCATS FRANCE and Founder and Managing Partner of Cab Bebohi Ebongo/HBE AVOCATS CAMEROUN, about running her own practice across two continents; and,
- We speak with Guled Yusuf, a partner in International Arbitration in A&O Shearman's London office, about his experience in international disputes, including those involving states.
The edition also features articles highlighting topics and issues from across the region, including:
- Updates on combatting corruption, fraud and bribery issues adjudicated in arbitral disputes;
- Arbitrator immunity in Africa-related disputes; and,
- Consequences of the African Continental Free Trade Area and its draft investment protocol on regional BITs.
We would be remiss not to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of many individuals, including Stanimir Alexandrov (ICCA President), Lise Bosman (Executive Director, ICCA Bureau), Paula Baldini (Deputy Executive Director for Publications, ICCA Bureau), Lucy Burns (ICCA Bureau), Siri Lundqvist (ICCA Bureau) and Muskaan Chawla (Advocate, New Delhi). We are truly grateful to each one of them for their support.
We hope you will find this third issue of Young ICCA Voices interesting and informative. We welcome any and all feedback concerning this issue or content for upcoming issues at voices@youngicca.org. We wish you a very pleasant reading!
