Georgetown Law – Young ICCA Scholarship Winner Announced

We are pleased to announce that Alejandro Acevedo Juárez is the recipient of the inaugural Georgetown Law – Young ICCA Scholarship. Alejandro will be awarded a full tuition fee scholarship to attend the Georgetown Law LL.M. as a specialist International Arbitration Scholar, commencing in the academic year 2026-2027.

Education: Licenciatura (“J.D.”) at Escuela Libre de Derecho and Master’s Degree at Universidad Panamericana

How did you get involved in international arbitration? When I started working at Clyde & Co at the arbitration and litigation team, led by Vicente Bañuelos. He introduced me to the world of arbitration and I have been fascinated ever since. 

What is your favourite virtue? Loyalty

What are your favourite qualities in another person? Kindness and integrity

What is your chief characteristic? I consider myself a creative person.

What is your main fault? I can be a very impatient person. 

What is your favourite occupation? Musician

What is your idea of happiness? Having enough time to spend with family and loved ones

What is your idea of misery? Running out of time

If not yourself, who would you be? A music producer

Where would you like to live? Paris, without a doubt. 

Who is your favourite prose author? Gabriel García Márquez or Dante Alighieri (could not choose just one)

Who is your favourite hero/heroine in fiction? Spider-Man

Who is your hero in real life? My parents. I know, a bit of a cheat, but I truly cannot choose just one.

What do you hate the most? Feeling powerless to change what I know should be changed.

What is your natural talent? Great sense of humor

What is your favourite arbitration-related decision? B-Mex, LLC and Others v. United Mexican States, ICSID Case No. ARB(AF)/16/3

Who is your favourite arbitrator? Albert Jan van den Berg

Who is your mentor? While I have had the opportunity to learn from many people in my life, Vicente Bañuelos and Francisco Ladino are two persons that have influenced me the most. 

What is your motto? “This too shall pass”
