Successful Seminar in Johannesburg

Young ICCA hosted a highly successful Johannesburg seminar on 15 March 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The interactive workshop format explored the theme "Routes Through Disputes: the Fundamentals of International Commercial Arbitration" and was attended by some 35 Africa-based practitioners and law students. Starting with interactive presentations by Miles Carter (Bowman Gilfillan, South Africa), Lise Bosman (ICCA), Vlad Movshovich (Webber Wentzel, South Africa), Tunde Fagbohunlu (Aluko &Oyebode, Nigeria) and Duncan Bradshaw (LCIA-MIAC, Mauritius), the panel (moderated by Jamsheed Peeroo, Peeroo Chambers, Mauritius) then guided participants through mock arbitral proceedings set in South Africa and Nigeria, fielding enthusiastic questions and animated advocacy. The event was preceded by a reception hosted by Norton Rose South Africa and was followed by a networking lunch hosted by Bowman Gilfillan. Participants remarked that they had been exposed to an exciting new field of practice, and hoped to participate in the growth of international arbitration practice in Africa.
